In the beginning…
Victoria House
came calling
In October 2022 the owners of Victoria House, Summerfield, approached my husband Ben at Loafers to re-open the cafe space at Victoria House.
Getting creative
Entering into the white blank canvas space, we got excited about creating something new. The space was bigger than the sandwich shop, which meant something different. We wanted a warm, calming and inviting space, somewhere for people to have meetings away from the office space or from ones own front room living.
Eastside Canteen’s name…
…was born, as traditionally, canteens were created as restaurants provided by an organisation such as a college, factory, or company for its students or staff. But in this case, we created an independent local business on the Eastside of Taunton, where a much-needed space for everyone: locals, workers and their dogs are welcome to enjoy the space alone or to read a book or as a group for business meetings or to meet with friends.
We offer space…
…with background ambient music for you to enjoy breakfast, light lunches including a monthly special, freshly ground Union coffee, a selection of great teas and cold drinks.
We love laughter and chat…
